Waste Certificates
1. How Waste Certificates Work
A Waste Certificate is not a fine or penalty fee. Instead, each active certificate grants your corporation a fixed storage allowance for that specific byproduct type:
- Production Hard Stop: If your total stored waste reaches your maximum certified storage capacity, all manufacturing facilities producing that waste type will immediately halt production until capacity is freed or expanded.
- Clearing Storage Bottlenecks: You can restore active manufacturing by processing waste (via Waste Plants or Water Treatment Plants), selling waste on the market, or purchasing additional certificates.
2. Certificate Types, Capacity Increments & Step Pricing Curves
Purchasing additional certificates increases your maximum storage limit. Certificate prices scale step-wise in flat-rate groupings, capping at Certificate #10:
| Byproduct Waste Type | Default Starting Certificates | Storage Allowance Per Certificate | Flat-Rate Pricing Step Curves | Maximum Certificate Price Cap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trash | 1 Free Cert | +25,000 Units / Cert |
Cert 1: €0 (Free) Cert 2-3: €500,000 Cert 4-6: €1,000,000 Cert 7-9: €2,000,000 |
€4,000,000 (Cert #10+) |
| Wastewater | 1 Free Cert | +100,000 Units / Cert |
Cert 1: €0 (Free) Cert 2-3: €2,000,000 Cert 4-6: €4,000,000 Cert 7-9: €8,000,000 |
€16,000,000 (Cert #10+) |
| Radioactive Waste | 0 Starting Certs | +2,500 Units / Cert |
Cert 1-3: €12,500,000 Cert 4-6: €25,000,000 Cert 7-9: €50,000,000 |
€100,000,000 (Cert #10+) |
3. Environmental Permits & Storage Limits
Environmental Permits (Waste Certificates) govern the total allowable volume of industrial byproducts your corporation can manage:
- Unified Storage & Market Limit: Active certificates define your corporation's total permitted holding capacity across factory generation, incoming shipments, and open market purchases. Every certificate adds +25,000 CBM Trash, +100,000 CBM Wastewater, or +2,500 CBM Radioactive Waste storage rights.
- Market Purchase Validation: Total volume held in your warehouse plus any market purchases cannot exceed your active permit capacity. When extra volume is needed, acquire additional permits on your Storage Page.
4. Capitalization & Asset Rankings
Waste Certificates are fully capitalized on your corporate balance sheet as fixed assets. The entire purchase price spent on certificates is added to your company's fixed asset valuation in the global rankings. The free starting certificate contributes €0 to your corporate valuation.
